At MCP we are often asked to enter tight spacers, such lofts, basements, voids, etc, during the course of our regular day surveying properties.
In light of the situation we could find ourselves in we continue to keep abreast of the RICS’s advice on working safely and all our staff are familiar with them. The RICS guideline sets out basic, good practice principles for the management of health and safety while on the job.
One of the key requirements is that staff ‘are responsible for knowing and understanding the health and safety risks appropriate to the tasks they undertake’. This knowledge is gained through appropriate training; keeping up-to-date with relevant information; and via personal experience, all of which contribute to ongoing competence in matters around safe working practices.
Individuals working within an RICS-regulated firm, like MCP, are obliged to maintain competent levels appropriate to the tasks they are undertaking. You can read RICS’s comprehensive guidelines here.
